In many classical ballets, Broadway shows and contemporary works, there is a love story. Sometimes, those dancers take their bow and then go off their separate ways. And they all just about make our heart melt.

His version follows the young god as he is ushered into adulthood by the muses of poetry, mime, and dance. Working with Diaghilev was an unparalleled apprenticeship for Balanchine and, until his own passing in , Balanchine always recognized Diaghilev and the Ballets Russes as the reason he became a great choreographer. Ultimately, though, these ballets remain beautiful, important, and fascinating works of art that are vital and need to be kept alive.

George Balanchine was born in , in pre-Soviet St. Petersburg, Russia, to Georgian and Russian parents. He was an accomplished pianist from an early age and went into the Imperial Ballet School in St. Petersburg at the age of nine. He was a professional dancer by age sixteen and began choreographing experimental works at this time as well. His daring new experiments, however, did not sit well with the newly formed Soviet Union and, in , while on tour in Berlin with a Soviet ballet company, he and a group of friends fled to Paris, where Sergei Diaghilev hired them.

At the young age of 20, Balanchine became a ballet master for the Ballets Russes and, at 21, he was commissioned by Diaghilev to create his first work for the company, the Le Chant du Rossignol. Based on the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale about a simple nightingale who saves the life of a Chinese emperor, the work was originally an opera composed by Igor Stravinsky in Diaghilev was not satisfied with the opera, though, so in , he commissioned Stravinsky to reduce the score to a one-act ballet with a libretto by writer Boris Kochno.

I may sound like a bitch, but my inner racist radar is saying to me that Wendy Ellis is the reason why Josh didn’t dance Napoleon, not because of all that bs about “you’re black i don’t want to make a joke of you”, yeah sure, Zach is short and ugly, let’s make a joke of him..

Let me say that I really like the idea of Zach being spite-cast as Napoleon yes you are a joke and you know it, Zach! While I believe while you may be onto something, I have two reasons to suggest that your theory is probably not the whole story. Wendy hates everybody. That said, realtalk? I do think Adam was overprotective in a way that may have negatively affected Josh, who is performer and who needs to perform to develop as an artist and a professional.

Rex grew up in Southern California, where the presence of neighborhood gangs convinced his parents to homeschool all seven of their children. At 11 years of age, Rex took his first dance class, but unfortunately, the school closed not long afterward. Because of this, he and his brothers were pushed into studying at the local Recreation Center where they took Creative Movement classes when they could.

I want to vindicate their sacrifice for making a bunch of artists. Right out of a Disney movie, little Ray, Ronald, Roy, Rex, and Alexis went to work laying floors, painting, and helping wherever they could to open the school.
